The exterior pattern of the patch is typical to a specific caste of Nepali called Gurung. The pattern appear on the male caps worn during harvest seasons and holidays as a good omen.
Two flags have also been added to the side of the patch. The flag of Nepal is the only non quadrilateral flag in the world. The triangle flag is inspired by the Nepali Himalayas which hold 10 of the world's twelve tallest mountains. The second flag featured on this hat is a water buffalo. Water buffalo are very abundant throughout the Annapurna region of Nepal. Many of the students are in charge of their families buffalos are will often leave classes early to feed or move them, especially in harvesting seasons.
